Looking at my 2 previous boards, which is a Z170 board with Fan Xpert 3 & a H170 board with Fan Xpert 2+, the difference between them is that v3 has 'disabled/auto/DC mode/PWM mode' in its CPU Q-Fan Control, while the v2+ only has 'disabled/PWM mode'. Apart from a quote " Fan Xpert 4 featuring Fan Auto Tuning function and multiple thermistors selection for optimized system cooling control ", which is just marketing speak. However, I've found no practical details about Fan Xpert 4.

But if Fan Xpert 4 would have a useful feature compared to a slightly cheaper sibling with v2+, I'd probably spend the extra money on a board with v4. I don't need a highend board, cause I'll go for a 65W TDP midrange CPU and don't intend to do overclocking. Looking at the current offerings I see cheaper boards with Fan Xpert 2+, while the more expensive boards have Fan Xpert 4. High on my list of priorities is quiet cooling, and like on my current desktop I'd like to use the Fan Xpert feature again to dynamically control the fan speeds based on the CPU temp. I've had many Asus boards over the years, and most likely my next one will be from that brand once again. I'm looking for a new mobo for a new build after the summer.
